On September 25, the students will join over 2000 school based competitors, spectators and supporters at the Toowoomba-based Marcus Oldham Australian Interschool Championships.
In another first, NEGS will also boast the greatest student representation from any school competing in all five disciplines – jumping, dressage, eventing, combined training and show horse riding.
NEGS riders Lucy Ramsay, Jaimie McElroy, Sarah Wyatt, Isabella Arabejo, Matilda Hall, Matilda McCarroll, Charlotte Jacobson and Katie Hancock have been chosen to represent NSW at the event while two students from the Northern Territory, Olivia Ruzsicska and Brooke McKenna, have been chosen to represent their state.
The students are members of the high performance and development squads that are a key training component of the NEGS equestrian program. Weekly squad training plus customised and individualised programs for horse and rider are also integral to the recent spate of success the girls have experienced.
Instrumental to the girls’ success has been the coaching and guidance from Equestrian Olympian Imtiaz Anees who, moved from the US in 2015, with the ambitious goal of taking the standard of riding at NEGS to new heights in competition. His colleague Rachelle Hirst has also been indispensable from a mentoring and coaching perspective.
“The selection in these teams is a credit to the hard work the girls have put into their riding to rise above the thousands of other students in their states,” NEGS principal Mary Anne Evans said.
“It is also a testament to the dedication and commitment of our coaches Imti and Rachelle.
“A number of students come to NEGS with aspirations to become competitive riders on a state and national level, and NEGS aims to nurture their ambitions through our state-of-the-art training and fitness programs and extensive competition schedules.
