Tamworth’s Matt Holmes and Gunnedah’s Zac Clarke were part of the NSW Cyclone’s only success at the recent Australian Junior Indoor Cricket Championships.

Their 13&U boys side claimed the title after defeating the NSW Blues by 49 runs in the decider.
They lost just one match for the tournament, a last ball defeat to the Blues, and won six of their 11 matches by more than 50 runs.
The championships in Mackay saw a handful of local juniors represent the Cyclones, with Gunnedah’s Dakota Milne and Claire McGuirk playing for the 14&U girls, Adam McGuirk and Mitchell Clarke (both Gunnedah) the 15&U boys, and Inverell’s Chloe Johnson and Anna Lennon and Tamworth’s Lara Graham lining up for the 17&U girls.
They placed fourth, while the 15’s boys and 14’s girls both finished third.
Adam McGuirk was one of the top performers in the 15’s boys, his efforts over the tournament seeing him named in the Australian Allstars team. He scored 167 runs from nine matches, and took 12 wickets from 18 overs.
Holmes was meanwhile one of the top wicket-takers in the 13’s, with 14 wickets from 19 overs, to go with 73 runs. Zac Clarke also had a good tournament amassing 142 runs and snaring 10 wickets.
Both had man of the match performances, Holmes in their opening game against South Australia Red, taking four wickets and top scoring with the bat, and Clarke against North Queensland, scoring 31 runs and claiming three wickets against.
Eligible also for the 14’s, Graham finished with six wickets and 57 runs, Lennon seven wickets and 76 runs and Johnson 99 runs and two wickets. Claire McGuirk also had a fruitful tournament with the bat scoring 117 runs. She backed up that with 11 wickets, while Milne claimed two wickets and hit 23 runs and Mitchell Clarke took four wickets from his three matches.
