Former-Quirindi girl Hannah Caterer is bringing a classical music recital to town, backing up some high calibre musicians, the likes of which haven’t been seen before in the Plains’ community, according to the young flautist.
Ms Caterer is bringing “internationally-acclaimed” flautist Sally Walker and pianist Dr Christopher Allan for the church concert and hopes it will strike a chord with local aspiring musos.
“It’s great to have this calibre of musician come to my hometown,” she told The Leader.
“Hopefully some local students might find some inspiration.”
This is the only regional-leg of the Twilight Musical Dialogues series, which has been treating audiences in Newcastle churches.
Ms Caterer would like to continue bringing classical music back to the region.
“We’ve already had a little bit of interest from the Gunnedah conservatorium,” she said.
“All goes well, hopefully we can keep coming back.
“Maybe we can share it around.”
The series’ artistic director, Sally Walker, has performed in more than 20 countries and Ms Caterer said the renown flautist was excited to add a visit a performance in the Liverpool Plains to the CV.
“She is very much looking forward to it, she is all about giving back,” Ms Caterer said.
It won’t be your typical classical music recital, Ms Caterer says, with some shorter pieces chosen, including some by Australian composers and some jokes along the way.
Interest is starting to build for the gig, according to organisers, with word spread far and wide.
“I spoke to schools all over the region including Premer, Murrundi, all the little ones that get forgotten about,” Ms Caterer said.
The concert starts at 3pm on Saturday, July 29.
Tickets are available online, or over the phone (Melissa Stubbs 0402 828 241) and at the door.
