The 75-year-old woman died in Tamworth hospital on Sunday from her wounds, which police have described as serious.
Police said a community nurse had attended the house in Nundle and called for urgent assistance on July 13 before the woman was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
She was placed into a specialist ward but died from her injuries three days later, and police were alerted.
“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death,” Oxley Acting Superintendent Jeff Budd told The Leader.
“Strike Force Cumbora has been established by Oxley detectives to investigate the nature of the injuries and a brief will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
“Anyone that has information that could assist investigators is urged to contact Tamworth police.”
