Shortly before 3.30pm, emergency services were called to reports of a t-bone crash on the intersection of Goddard Ln and the Oxley Highway.
Paramedics treated a 20-year-old man for minor injuries including a bloodied nose before he was taken to Tamworth hospital in a stable condition.
Police said witnesses saw the Nissan Pulsar, which was travelling west, attempt to turn right off the highway, into the path of the eastbound bitumen tanker.
The driver of the bitumen tanker was not injured but his truck sustained damage to the front, while the Nissan was destroyed.
The road was closed for a short time while police cleared the debris from the intersection.
