Like Urban, the actress and singer departed Australian shores to make her name in the USA.
While Urban battled for the best part of a decade to rise to prominence as a country star in Nashville, Bowen’s ascendancy was much quicker.
But Bowen’s fame has come through her character, Scarlet O’Connor, on the hit TV series Nashville.
It was her first time in Tamworth, but she mentioned to the audience that she spoke at the 2013 ceremony when a sister-city partnership was signed between the country music capitals.
Tuesday evening’s gig at West Tamworth Leagues Club included a mix of Bowen’s original songs from her forthcoming debut album, along with covers of some country hits, and whatever you call Scarlet O’Connor songs.
While they cannot be regarded as Bowen originals, or covers, the songs her character has made her own on screen were the ones that drew the greatest response from the audience.
There was the haunting Black Roses, from Nashville’s second season, as well as a special moment when the diminutive star sat on the edge of the stage to sing When The Right One Comes Along. Watch it here:
It was very much a family affair, with her fiance Brandon Robert Young alongside her on stage playing guitar, and her brother Timothy Bowen the support act.
Her brother later rejoined the band on stage during Bowen’s set, along with his fiance, Christina Mullany.
Bowen and Young performed If I Didn’t Know Better, from Nashville’s first season, together, and they all joined in on a couple more songs fans were familiar with including Borrow My Heart, and the final encore, A Life That’s Good.
