TAMWORTH pet owners are urged to take responsible steps to ensure their pets don’t produce unwanted offspring.

July is National Desexing Month with some local clinics offering discounts for owners to desex their dogs or cats.

Dr Greg Ireland from the Tamworth Veterinary Clinic said desexing pets goes hand-in-hand with responsible pet ownership.

“There are too many unwanted animals,” he said. “If people get their pets desexed, they won’t be able to reproduce. The rationale behind it all is to raise awareness.”

He said desexing pets can also help prevent types of serious diseases, including, cancers from occurring. To find out if you’re eligible for a discount for your pet, contact your local vet clinic this month.
