The North West sides are made up of players from Inverell, Armidale, Gunnedah and Tamworth. AFL development officer Sonia Martin said it was the first women’s representative clash in AFLNW NSW history.
“So it’s history in the making,” she said.
She added: “It’s shaping up to be cracking games of footy against the best from the North Coast League,” she said.
“This is the highest level of AFL in North NSW. It is a big deal to be selected and an absolute credit to the names players.”
On Tuesday and Wednesday, an under-17 North West representative team will compete at a carnival at Coffs Harbour against four other leagues (Hunter, Central Coast, North Coast and Northern Rivers). “As an indication of growth in AFL in the North West, this is again the first ever junior representative team fielded from our region,” Martin said.
