At the end of July, the Tamworth local will join thousands of 18 to 25 year old Rovers from across the global for the World Scout Moot.
While she’s the only one for the North West region, she’ll join the 460-strong Australian Rover contingent, who will soak up the sights and sounds of Iceland’s famously beautiful wilderness.
“We get together, get to know each other, do some tourist stuff and some activities,” Ms Stevens said.
“We’ll be put in a group with people from different countries and go on exhibitions together.”
Ms Stevens will also join the 5000 other participants for an Althingi. While the Althingis of old were a gathering of Iceland’s leaders, the Scouts’ Althingi will include outdoor activities, workshops, round table discussions, challenges and camp fires.
She’ll spend a week hiking to the top of Iceland, along mountain ranges and glaciers, and swimming in hot spas and thermal pools.
Ms Stevens said if you “love the outdoors, love people and have a sense of adventure”, then you’ll fit right in to Scouts.
“You’re never too old to jump in to Scouts,” she said.
“The Rovers still go camping and do similar stuff to everyone else, but we are more leader based, and help run activities for the younger Scouts. We try to organise things in the community in our uniforms, so people can see Scouts isn’t just for younger people.”
