A little rain on Wednesday (okay, a lot ) didn’t dampen the mood of the youngsters who took part in the Legends of League carnival at Minor League Park.

If anything, the more it rained, the more the Year 5 and 6 kids liked it.
“I don’t know how the parents and teachers are going, but the kids are loving,” said Luke Taylor, Tamworth-based NRL game development officer and the organiser of the event.
Taylor praised Tamworth Regional Council for allowing the carnival to go ahead. There was a big increase in team number this year, with 21 boys and girls outfits lining up after only five took part in the event last year.
Taylor thanked teachers for getting behind it.
“The teachers were more proactive this than what they had been,” he said.
“As far as what we do, our job is to only supply information of what’s happening – they’ve [the schools] got to enter teams.
“Congratulation to all the teacher who done it, because it was a great day.”
The teams competed top advance to the North West finals in Gunnedah on July 24.
In the boys final, St Edwards Primary School of Tamworth beat Armidale’s Newling Public School in the siren.
Two Tamworth schools battled it out in the girls final, with Hillvue Public School proving too strong for Tamworth South Public School.
The regional finals in Gunnedah will involve boys and girls teams from Tamworth, Inverell, Moree, Narrabri and Glen Innes.
The winners of the boys and girls competition will compete at the state finals in Sydney in August.
