Tamworth beat out 195 other councils to claim the inaugural Red Cross local government blood drive, last year, and mayor Col Murray wants to win again.
“We saved a lot of lives with the little bit of effort we put in last year and we’re looking a bigger and better effort this year,” Cr Murray said.
The blood drive is part of the Red Cross’ “Red25” initiative getting people in the chair during the colder months.
Cold and flu renders regular donors ineligible leading to a shortfall during winter, but the Red Cross is trying to open its doors to more potential givers.
The recently-tattooed now only have to wait four months before donating, shaving two months off the previous wait time.
Members of the public can join and support the initiative by signing up and donating on behalf of the council.
The council challenge runs from July 1 to September 30.
