Ash Allen grabbed a hat-trick with Julie Rodda and Melissa Houlihan scoring doubles for the Flames in the 9-2 win over Tudors.
Kim Resch and Kate Ferguson nabbed the other goals for the Flames while Chloe Walker and Pip Fisher score one goal apiece for Tudors.
It was an impressive passing display that got the Flames over the line, according to Flames coach Barrie Pritchard.
“It was generally a good game for us, we put together a lot of good passing movements, when you string a few passes together you put a lot of pressure on the opposition,” Pritchard said.
The Flames also displayed their depth with four second grade players seamlessly making the step up in grade.
Things were much closer in the Waratahs-Services match.
Waratahs reversed last week’s scoreline – where they went down 3-2 against the Flames – to register a 3-2 victory over Services.
Katrina Rekunow led the way in terms of goals for the match with a double for the Waratahs.
Waratah’s Sarah Askey and Services’ Gabbi D’Ambros and Shelley Stevenson where the other goal-scorers.
The Olympians continued their improved defensive efforts to score a 3-1 victory over Souths.
While defence had been a problem earlier this year, Olympians have now let in just one goal in the last fortnight. Olympians coach Andrew Farmilo said the hard work at training was starting to pay off.
“Our back five all played really well,” Farmilo said.
“There was pretty much no turnovers and we controlled the ball well.”
However, Farmilo said his side wasn’t as clinical at the other end of the field.
“We missed a lot of opportunities,” he said.
“We actually didn't convert that well but defensively we were good so we’re building as the season goes on.”
Olympians scored the opening goal just before half-time to head into the break with a 1-0 lead.
They doubled that in the second before Souths reduced the deficit back to one goal.
Almost immediately after Souths’ goal, Olympians responded, much to the delight of Farmilo.
“We scored pretty quickly after [Souths’ goal] to hit back quickly which was good,” he said.
Farmilo named three players as his best.
“I thought Rhyannon Bowles [back five] was excellent,” Farmilo said.
“Emma Clifton-Smith in the midfield and Flo Davidson [back five] had good games as well.”
