Kirby, a three-week-old calf and one of only two of its kind in Australia, was stolen from Haley Ellis’ 35-breeder operation, Buckaroo Brahmans. 

Kirby was last seen by Ms Ellis’ parents about lunchtime Friday, but was discovered missing from the property, just north of Murrurundi, by 8am the following morning.

“There are drag marks under the fence,” Ms Ellis told The Leader.

“It’s a bit disheartening.”

Kirby was the offspring of Ms Ellis’ prized bull that had won back-to-back champion bull at the Sydney Royal Easter Show as a junior and senior. 

“There is also devastation at the other end for the cow,” Ms Ellis said.

“I won’t get any production from that cow for another 12 to 16 months now. 

“She is very, very unique. 

“There are only two of them that genetically coloured in Australia, so it’s going to be hard to keep it under wraps.”

Ms Ellis suspects Kirby was stolen because she is one of a kind, and would have made an ideal “poddy calf for kids”.

The calf, which is about the size of a kelpie and weighing about 25 kilograms, has a microchip in her. 

Ms Ellis hopes the local community and social media will help track Kirby down.

“My (Facebook) post has been shared right across NSW, down to Victoria and into Queensland,” she said.

“I just want her returned.

“I don’t care – drop her at the vets if you have to, drop her back in the paddock tonight. 

“I don’t care. 

“I just want her back.”
