These proposed fees hikes are not on and will only ruin cricket in this area.
To say cricket turf pitches are more labour intensive is a furphy, as they have always needed the same attention by ground staff as they did fifty, sixty years ago.
This is a known fact and any council grounds committee worth their pay would have this factored into their estimates each year.
Why now, suddenly they find that it takes more staff hours to prepare a wicket than it did when turf wickets were first used.
No, it is all part of a plan to a) discourage cricket or b) to force clubs to gather volunteers interested in cricket and interested in having their children play cricket, to prepare the turf wickets and mow the fields.
It is yet another council stuff up that will not be tolerated.
