FROM fishing to moustaches, country music to cricket, former Australian bowler Merv Hughes is covering all bases while visiting the region. Merv arrived in the country music capital on Thursday afternoon for a trade show at Avro Metaland, but he’s sticking around for the weekend.

First up on his agenda was some country music – “I don’t mind Del Reeves” – followed by “a couple of quiet lemonades later on”.
Merv took his visit to the region as an opportunity to praise “outstanding” Bendemeer pace bowler Josh Hazelwood.
And while he might have given up cricket for the most part, his strength on the moustache front has never wavered. “You just don’t shave in that spot,” he tipped.
Merv was due in Gunnedah on Friday, before fishing at Lake Keepit.
