A FARMER working with a tractor is recovering in hospital after the machine crushed him near Narrabri.

Paramedics were called to the property on Mellburra Rd at Couradda, near Bellata, about 3.20pm on Thursday and found a 52-year-old man with serious abdominal and chest injuries.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked from Tamworth and airlifted the patient to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
A spokesperson said the patient was in a serious condition.
