The dam use to be the town’s emergency water supply, however the pipeline from Split Rock Dam to Barraba means it is no longer necessary.
Connors Creek Dam was recently assessed by the NSW government and classed as a “High C”, which means council will have to spend money to ensure the dam is maintained to the required standard.
Built in 1934, the dam original stored 360 megalitres, however, due to siltation the water storage capacity has been reduced to 156 megalitres.
The silt could become a problem if the dam is decommissioned, as it may be contaminated with copper used to treat algae blooms.
