Losses to Nepean (2) (3-2) and Sydney South (2-nil) on Saturday left the Andrew Davy-coached side needing to win both their games on Sunday to have a chance of progressing through.
Their hopes soared with a 3-nil win over neighbouring New England but were quashed by a 3-1 loss to unbeaten Goulburn (1).
“Yesterday (Saturday) hurt us badly,” Davy said.
They dominated possession and territory in both games but couldn’t turn that into goals, and were stung on the counter.
All three of Nepean’s goals they were on the attack, and the same thing happened against Sydney South.
For the New England game they changed their structure and went to a back four, which worked for them.
They dominated the game and were most importantly able to “put three balls in the back of the net”.
