Investigators have been doorknocking homes looking for any locals who may have seen the red-coloured four-wheel-drive.
Police said a man stabbed a 33-year-old man in the neck and attempted to stab a woman in the car before fleeing.
He remains on the run.
The woman was not injured but the 33-year-old managed to drive himself to hospital and remains in a stable condition.
Victim in hospital
A MAN is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the neck in Tamworth in the early hours of Thursday.
The Gunnedah man managed to drive himself to hospital after he was attacked in a car in Calala shortly after 4.30am.
He remains in a stable condition in Tamworth hospital and police said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police said the man answered a knock at his front door in West Tamworth about 4am.
“There was a male at the door that was known to the victim, the alleged offender and some other people that were in the house,” Oxley Inspector Michael Wurth told The Leader.
“They drove to a service station on Marius St where some items were purchased.
After leaving the service station, it’s alleged the male victim suffered a stab wound to the neck.

Police said the offender fled.
“The victim was able to drive himself to hospital where he is being treated,” Inspector Wurth said.
Car seized for forensic examination
The vehicle has been seized by police for forensic examination as they hunt the offender.
He is described as having a tanned complexion, tall with a thin build, prominent front teeth with one missing, tatoos on his chest, arms and back, and short brown curly hair.
At the time of the offence he was wearing grey pants, a black t-shirt and a grey or brown-coloured jacket, and grey Everlast shoes.

“If anyone has information in relation to this incident we would urge them to contact Crime Stoppers or Tamworth Police Station.”
Police said there is no cause for community alarm with the parties believed to be known to one another.
Investigations are continuing and detectives are canvassing the area for any witnesses.
