What does that say to you? It says to me that Troy Grant, our Deputy Premier of two years ago, put his future on the line after a massive investigation exposed unjust issues of cruelty to animals in the industry, particularly greyhounds and the other animals associated with the sport. It just so happens that a huge number of people in NSW happen to love dogs and would have supported that decision on the day, if it was put to a public vote. We all saw it on television, particularly those people like myself who happen to love dogs generally.
He lost his position as Deputy Premier, I would say probably in regard to that issue, with his party. He also lost the support of many other people who followed the greyhound industry’s pressure.
The thought of thousands of dogs being sold to Asia for $500 each is abhorrent to most country people. And to think that Troy Grant lost his position because of his stand. That makes me very cranky.
I did attend an explanation given publicly in Tamworth some time back, when he explained fully why he was taking such a strong stand and I came out of that meeting giving my total support to him. Troy Grant still has a very important role to play in the state government as Police Minister. I hope that we give him our total support in the future, as he is a very good Member of Parliament.
Unfortunately, there are still many conservative voters who can’t make up their mind on these sort of issues and do nothing.
