The quick grabbed a career-best 6-52 as New Zealand were bowled out for 291 in 45 overs.
It rained during the innings break, costing an hour of play, with Australia set the revised 235 in 33 overs at a run rate of more than seven an over.
Australia struggled to 3-53 in the ninth over when it rained again and the match was abandoned.
