One local provider has transitioned into a new name with One Door Mental Health unveiled as the new branding for the former Carer Assist service.
The rechristening of the service comes as the industry faces one of the biggest transitions in recent history with clients and providers adapting to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
We have got to transition all of our clients who used to come to us for services, we were funded by the government to provide to them for free, they’re now funded as a consumer to purchase those services from us.

“We have got to transition all of our clients who used to come to us for services, we were funded by the government to provide to them for free, they’re now funded as a consumer to purchase those services from us,” One Door North West NSW Regional Manager Sharon Freebody said.
“The funding is now going to the consumer so they now have choice and control over what it is they want to actually purchase.
“It’s a new way of thinking and managing that change is difficult for not only clients but staff as well.”
Ms Freebody said the mental health carer support provided in Tamworth through Joyce Vernon won’t be affected by the NDIS, but help can be sought navigating the process.
If the carer comes to Joyce and says ‘I have a family member who has bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia or depression’ and they may be eligible for an NDIS package, if that is a goal, than Joyce is able to support them through that service.

Carer Assist was one of more than 82 brands operating under The Schizophrenia Fellowship.
The various providers, located at more than 35 sites around NSW, have been rebranded as One Door Mental Health.
