Ben van Aanholt slotted the winner from the penalty spot with around three minutes remaining after FC had made the early running in both halves. Troy Hearfield scored both FC’s goals, Nick Bowden providing the first half leveller for Companions and Brodie King the second.
“It was a very hard fought win,” Companions coach Gavin Thompson said.
“Probably the first 15 minutes they were on top but the rest of the first half we dominated but we could only manage to put one away.”
“They then came out really strongly in second half and were on top for a good 20-25 minutes before we got ourselves back in the game.”
Oxley Vale Attunga meanwhile had to settle for a 3-all draw with East Armidale after squandering a 2-nil lead.
“Luke Purcell had us up by two and I think they went this is easy,” Mushies coach Tim Coates said.
