Unbeaten last season and so far this season, the reigning premiers were handed a rare loss as Gunnedah further pressed their North West AFL premiership credentials with an 11.13-79 to 9.16-70 triumph.
In what was a tight and see-sawing tussle at Wolseley Oval, the Bulldogs led by three points at the first break and nine at half-time before a five-goal third term saw the Nomads hit the front.
Ben Maher kicked three for the victors and Jake Spackman and coach Greg Piggott two in what Piggott labelled “a very good team win.”
“It was probably the first game of the year where we’ve played the full four quarters,” the delighted mentor said.
Dave Richards and James Treweeke both booted three for the Nomads.
In the other game, the Inverell Saints snapped a three-game losing streak in convincing style, thumping the Moree Suns 28.18-186 to 4.7-31 in Inverell.
