The Cancer Council was represented at the morning tea by Paul Hobson who congratulated Professionals Tamworth on their ongoing commitment to Cancer Council fundraising events including being a Platinum level sponsor of the National Breast Cancer Fund for raising over $3,000,000.00 to date.
Mr Hobson told the gathering the Cancer Council NSW’s mission is to lead, empower and mobilise the community to beat cancer.
“Cancer Council NSW is 97 per cent community funded and we rely on the generous donations and support of the community to continue our work in world class research, advocacy, prevention programs and support services,” he said.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is now in its 24th year, and is one of Cancer Council’s leading fundraising events and the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia.
Goals for 2017
This year, Cancer Council NSW hopes to recruit 11,100 generous morning tea hosts and raise over $4.9million to help everyone affected by cancer in NSW.
Funds raised through Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea help support Cancer Council’s life-saving cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support programs (like Cancer Council 13 11 20 Information and Support service) for people facing cancer.
Locally, Cancer Council NSW invests well over $100,000 annually towards Accommodation and Transport Services in Tamworth as well as life-saving prevention programs at local pools, schools and golf clubs in an effort to beat cancer.

- Across NSW, it is predicted that almost 46,500 people will be diagnosed with cancer in a single year, with approximately 15,500 deaths expected.
- It’s estimated that over 1.1million Australians have either survived a diagnosis or are currently living with cancer.
