Since my first letter to TRC dated 20th October 2013 wherein I raised the concerns of a visiting Port Macquarie family and others, to the grubby look of our CBD, I have been attempting to have Council carry out a professional clean of our paving from White Street to Bourke Street. All to no avail.

I have noted over the past week no fewer than 4 photo. ops have been taken by our Council, to praise their plans for our City.
I note that the Mayor describes the CBD as “the strongest indicator of a city’s soul and, how vibrant it is economically” and further, “ it has to be busy and vibrant”.
The apparent reluctance of our Council to allocate the funds to have the “Soul” professionally cleaned, is beyond all belief.
They have proffered that “insufficient funds” were available on one occasion but, still they spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on their “improvements”.
This long term dereliction of care/duty to our residents, both past and present, borders on a grave offence of neglect of duty.
I have spoken with the NSW Dept. of Local Government, who assure me that the decision to do or not to do this clean- up is 100% in the hands of our elected Councillors, not management..
In closing, I would like to state that I have every respect for the expansion/development of our city and its facilities, however, Council must not relegate care of existing facilities to the basket of “not important”.
