COUNCIL is taking a hard stand on vandalism, calling for vandals to be slugged with clean-up costs for the damage caused.
Following a recent spree of vandalism which caused significant damage to equipment at the Kable Ave playground, Tamworth councillor Russell Webb is pushing for the perpetrators to wear the bill.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, Cr Webb asked for support to seek full compensation for the necessary repairs at the Tamworth Regional Playground.
“The cost should not be borne by the community,” Cr Webb said.
“As well as this, it sends a message that if you do get caught doing this, not only will you be penalised by the court, you will have to pay for the repair.”
Tamworth Regional Council is still carrying out a review of the damage and is set to find out in coming days how much it will cost to replace the equipment and how long the skywalk will remain out of action.
Last week, mayor Col Murray estimated it could cost “tens of thousands of dollars” to repair.
