The premiers came out firing, blasting five goals in the first 15-20 minutes to blow Souths out of the contest.
“I reckon they scored twice in the first minute-and-a-half,” Souths coach Greg Scott said.
It was always going to be a difficult road back from there, but Souths managed to drag a goal back before half-time and almost ended up snagging a draw.
Neil Wood had a shot with about a minute to go, Scott said, but it hit one of their players’ foot in the circle.
He did point that Workies did miss some opportunities too.
“We just weren’t prepared to get in the contest,” he said.
They gifted Workies a lot of possession through poor passing and mistakes.
“Once we decided to get in the contest and started to play we went okay,” Scott said.
The other game saw Tudor Wests and Kiwis play out a 4-all draw.
