The book this year – the 17th annual event – will be The Cow Tripped Over the Moon, written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood.
Children in libraries all over the nation will hear the same story at the same time.
Children’s services librarian Jacqueline Smith said the local event would also include another story and some crafts, to really give the children some quality library time.
The Australian Library and Information Association co-ordinates the event, which aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, preschools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
In 2016, more than 520,000 children at more than 3500 places across Australia took part.
