Driving his Torana sports sedan, Halpin won his class (type 4 2ltr) and was second outright in the opening round at Kempsey.
“I was really happy considering it was wet and I was on slicks,” Halpin said.
“Very happy” with how the car ran, he followed up with a strong performance in the State Hillclimb, which was also held at Kempsey.
“I did a personal best in the dry and ran fourth outright, which is way higher than I normally run,” he said.
The Tri-Series is an inter-club challenge between the TSCC, Kempsey Sporting Car Club and MG Car Club of Newcastle.
The Tamworth event will be staged as a lap dash and has drawn a full field of 70 entries.
”This is the biggest number we’ve ever had,” Halpin said.
There will be open wheelers, aussie race cars as well as the regular classes.
