The 76-62 triumph coupled with Bankstown’s loss to Hills put the Tamworth side on top on percentages.
After a bit of a slow start, the Thunderbolts “got a run on” in the third quarter stretching a four-point half-time lead into a 10-point advantage.
“A lot of it came out of our defence,” coach John Ireland said.
“Kyle (Gupton) also made some massive shots for us, which turned the game.”
He nailed two three-pointers in the space of 30 seconds at one stage in the third quarter on his way to 27 points for the game. Max Chillingworth was the next top with 11 and also made some tough shots in the third quarter.
“The biggest thing was our defensive rebounding. Controlling the defensive glass and limiting Manly’s second scoring opportunities definitely helped us win the game,” Ireland said.
