May 12-27 sees this power-packed show take to the Capitol Theatre stage with 11 performances, with both evening and matinee performances to choose from.
This Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical features the hits of bands including Journey, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, and others.
Set in L.A.'s infamous Sunset Strip in 1987, Rock of Ages tells the story of Drew, a boy from South Detroit and Sherrie, a small-town girl, both in L.A. to chase their dreams of making it big and, of course, falling in love.
The production boasts a cast of 40 rockers and an “arsenal” of very experienced rock band members – not in the orchestra pit this time – but on stage as part of the cast.
For those who have seen the movie (which is slightly different to the live show) you would remember the stellar line-up of stars including Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Diego Boneta and Julianne Hough.
The local version includes Dave Callinan as Stacee Jaxx, Lara Northey as Sherrie, Ryan Saban as Drew, Aaron Jones as Lonny, Phil Blamey as Dennis, Alana Johnson as Regina, Tim Bosse as Hertz Klinemann, Mitchell Lewin as Franz, Sean McInnes as The Mayor and Ann Walsh as Justice.
There is also a huge line-up of support actors including Michael Hansen, EJ Crosby Wolfe, Cara Bastian, Rae Moody, Geraldine Cutmore and Ethan Allen.
This Tamworth Musical Society production enlisted the talents of musical director Todd Power with his assistant Samara Redman, who have been rehearsing with the powerhouse cast and band for the last three months as has choreographer Sequoya Oldman.
The show contains some course language and sexual references.
Another show that’s a definite for your calendar is Bakersfield Mist.
Starring the iconic John Wood and Julie Nihill, Maude (played by Nihill), an unemployed bartender, has bought a painting for a few bucks from an opp shop.
Despite almost trashing it, she now thinks it’s a Jackson Pollock worth millions.
But when world-class art expert, Lionel Percy (played by John Wood), flies over from New York and arrives at her trailer park home in Bakersfield to authenticate the painting, he has no idea what he’s about to discover.
Based on a true story, Bakersfield Mist is a comedy set in the present day starring two of Australia’s much-loved actors.
Tickets are available at entertainmentvenues.com.au or by calling 6766 2028, or visiting the Box Office at Capitol Theatre and The Big Golden Guitar.
