The defending champions made it two from two with a 42-7 victory in a game that was riddled with dropped balls - from both sides. For their part Pirates were guilty of trying to push the pass, but it didn’t hurt them too much with their scrum dominant.
They even picked up a couple of tight head, Pirates coach Mat Kelly said.
“It was good to see the forward pack perform well,” he said.
So did the backs, with Andrew Moodie turning in another strong performance. Josh Devine also impressed on debut on the wing, while stepping up from the 18s, Jackson Sharpe was good at half-back when he came on.
“He was great and scored a try,” Kelly said.
The forwards though topped the points with Doug Biffin, in his first game for the season, earning the three points. Number eight Conrad Starr was close behind him and scored a double, both of which were 40m-plus efforts.
