In a Cycling NSW initiative, the city was selected as one of the hosts of the Women’s #Five100 rides, and on Saturday, almost 30 riders from Tamworth, Coffs Harbour and Armidale completed the trek.
The route took in Wallamore Rd, out to Appleby, Davidson’s Ln, Moore Creek, Daruka, Kootingal, Nemingha, Dungowan and back into Tamworth, before the group crossed the finish line at Hopscotch Restaurant.
For many riders, it was their first 100km trek – a milestone that was celebrated in front of a large group, including a host of men who were the official support crew, following the riders and ensuring they had enough food and water to complete the challenge.
“The inaugural Tamworth Women's #FIVE100 was one of those days where you see women supporting other women to achieve amazing things,” Tamworth Cycle Club’s women’s development officer Min McDonald said.
“For most, it was their longest ride so far.”
