Mayworth, Australia’s largest country dance festival, will be held from May 4-7 at the West Tamworth Leagues Club and will showcase some of the best dancers from across Australia and eight countries.
This year will mark the 14th event and is the brainchild of Tamworth’s Chris Watson.
Country artists including Travis Collins, Ashleigh Dallas, Dan Murphy and Grammy award winner Ty Herndon will also perform around the competitions and workshops on offer.
The event is the only one of its kind in the nation.
“This is a manic time, we are a week out from Mayworth which is Australia’s biggest country dance festival,” Mr Watson said.
“There are more than 22 different workshops and lessons and seven socials over the four-day period.
“There’s lots of activity happening while our dancers continue to practice to hopefully bring home some medals as they represent Tamworth.”
Mr Watson said five young dancers, aged between seven and 16, will be representing Tamworth. The event will also see many contestants and their families stay in Tamworth for an average of five nights.
“We have some of the world’s best instructors from the US, the UK, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia’s best,” Mr Watson said.
“We expect about 800 individual people through the doors, we have about 400 of those having a five-night stay in Tamworth, It’s fantastic for tourism."
Mr Watson invited locals to check out all the action and the world-class entertainment.
“Our day time events are all open to locals to come and have a look,” he said.
“The fees start from just $4 to come and watch. Tickets to the Sunday concert (Ty Herndon) can be purchased on the Leagues Club website, but everything else can be purchased at the door. The (line dance) socials are fantastic events to come to, they are more of a social dance with some demonstrations and competition.”
