Councillors endorsed the $20,000 purchase of a sculpture by “internationally-known artist” Stephen King, entitled Balancing the Books, which will be installed outside the Tamworth library.
It will replace the current piece in front of the library by Mr King, Stargazer III, but it won’t be farewell to the artwork. At Wednesday’s meeting, Cr Glenn Inglis announced the new purchase was part of a deal which included Stargazer III as a cultural gift to council.
An online poll by The Leader found the new piece was winning over locals with 58 per cent of respondents saying they loved it.
Cr Juanita Wilson said “the deal was a coup for the city” and the artworks would be “treasured down the track”.
