Gunnedah Police Inspector Michael Wurth is asking drivers to be aware of school zone signs and to watch out for children.
“They [school zones] are back,” Inspector Wurth said.
“Forty kilometre zones are enforceable and they are there for the safety of school children primarily.
“Breeches or speeding within those zones can attract hefty monetary fines and a loss of points.
“Our preference would be motorists adhering to that 40km speed limit.”
Police urge motorists to be observant and drive 40km/hr in the zones on gazetted school days between 8-9.30am and 2.30-4pm on school days.
