The Magpies were in coach Craig Summers’ summation ordinary in the first half.
“Our second half was a lot better,” Summers said.
“The first half we were very unstructured. We kept turning the ball over.”
“We couldn’t put any phases together.”
He attributed that in some part to the eagerness of the first game of the season.
“We were getting a bit overexcited and trying to push the pass,” he said.
They also didn’t defend well in the first half.
“They spread the ball around and we didn’t react to it,” Summers said.
He was particularly happy with their pick and drive game in the second half, and thought skipper James Bracken, Alex Newmarch and Dominic Sills were their best performers.
