Every year a service is held to remember and commemorate fallen and returned service men and women, and this year a special tree was planted as part of the ceremony.

A Lone Pine that is a direct descendant of the Lone Pine from Gallipoli was planted in the Last Post cemetery, with Father Tom Shanahan OAM using holy water to give the tree the best possible start.

A large crowd attended the sixth consecutive year of the service, which is an initiative of Bevan Douglas Funerals and Burke & Hamilton Funerals.

Bevan Douglas Funerals manager Margaret Tarbert said there were hundreds of servicemen and women buried at the gardens.

"We have a lot of our returned soldiers at Lincoln Grove," Mrs Tarbert said.

“It is very special and the Lone Pine also has a special story - when the sun goes down during the service it is a magic place.”
