Michael Hansen is the fresh face of the NSW Young Nationals leadership team after he was voted in as Vice Chairman.
Mr Hansen was elected at the Young Nationals annual general meeting in Moree on April 9.
He joins the returned chairwoman Jessica Price-Purnell and additional Vice Chairman Sam Pearn who was also returned.
Mr Hansen is no stranger to the public domain; he is a former news weather presenter for Prime7 and currently works as the media officer for Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson.
Mr Hansen said it was a “privilege” to be able to represent young people across NSW as part of the NSW Young Nationals and he hopes the position would bring new opportunities for young people in the Tamworth region for the future.
“The NSW Young Nationals gives young people living in regional NSW an opportunity to engage in politics and voice their opinions on the things that matter to them,” Mr Hansen said.
“I want to focus on engaging more broadly with young people in the regions.
“We may be a political organisation, but we are a geographical based organisation rather than a philosophical one, which means we’re open to anything, as long as it’s regional.”
Mr Hansen said he wanted to help young people across NSW have a voice and to join in on political conversations.
“I want to work with the new executive team to help give a voice to young people in regional NSW,” he said.
“Every Young Nat is invited to have their say on the issues they are most passionate about and we need to make sure that those issues get included in the wider political conversation.”
Chairwoman Jessica Price-Purnell said the Young Nationals welcomed people from many diverse backgrounds to have their say.
“Our members are spread across the state and are from many backgrounds,” she said.
“We’re not just farmers or students – we’re doctors, nurses and plumbers, we work in retail and hospitality, we have families. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or where you’ve been.”
