The 29-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in a Peel St hotel in Tamworth on Monday afternoon after a statewide manhunt.
Oxley police tracked the accused, who The Leader understands has family ties to Tamworth, after a tip-off.
He’s accused of attempting to kill his 25-year-old partner at her home in Turrella, in Sydney, in the early hours of Friday morning, by stabbing her several times.
He’s facing several domestic violence-related charges including attempted murder after two alleged incidents.
He appeared in the dock of Tamworth Local Court on Tuesday morning in a grey hoodie, and yawned several times through the court proceedings.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Alix Thom tendered facts and photographs of the injuries, in a bid to have the alleged victim’s identity and hospital location suppressed.
“The photographs come with a warning as to their graphic nature,” she told the court.
Sergeant Thom said the woman was “in a vulnerable state”, in a serious condition in hospital, but there were concerns if her location was revealed, her safety could be at risk.
“There are concerns there may be other persons who may attempt to contact the complainant,” she said.
“They are serious allegations.
“My instructions are that the police handling the strictly indictable matters have those concerns and don't wish for her whereabouts to be known.
My instructions are that the police handling the strictly indictable matters have those concerns and don't wish for her whereabouts to be known ... she will be staying in hospital for quite some time.

Sergeant Thom said police will allege the accused told the woman "I hope you die s***" when she sought urgent help after the alleged stabbing.
Aboriginal Legal Service solicitor Jonathan Wilcox did not oppose the suppression order and made no application for bail.
The man was formally refused bail by Magistrate Roger Prowse who ordered the woman’s identity and whereabouts be suppressed.
Police have been ordered to compile a brief of evidence and the 29-year-old will reappear in Central Local Court in June.
