The Tingha flyer is out for the next 4-6 weeks due to a knee injury he sustained at training late last week.
Eels fullback French suffered damaged to a posterior cruciate ligament.
He was a late withdrawal for Sunday’s away clash against the Warriors.
French’s absence was felt as Parramatta suffered a 22-10 loss to New Zealand at Mount Smart Stadium, the fourth straight defeat for the Eels following a bright start to the season.
Parramatta coach Brad Arthur had to reshuffle his backline as a result of French’s absence.
Clint Gutherson went from five-eighth to fullback, with Brad Takairangi shifting from the centres to five-eighth and three-quarter Kirisome Auva'a given his Eels debut after 39 games at South Sydney.
The injury comes at the worst time for French, who had been touted as a likely Country selection.
The last City/Country clash is at Mudgee on May 7.
