Instead of director Mohamed Diab, journalist Peter Greste, who was arrested by Egyptian authorities while reporting for Al Jazeera English, will discuss the film - and no doubt Egyptian politics - in a Skype interview with ABC TV News Breakfast host Virginia Trioli on Thursday night.

Greste served 400 days in an Egyptian prison before being released in early 2015.

Clash is set in Cairo's summer of 2013 - two years after the Egyptian revolution that saw pro-Islamist president Mohamed Morsi deposed by the Egyptian Armed Forces led by General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. It's a film that Variety has described as "one of the most telling depictions of modern Egypt yet filmed".

Animal Logic in $500m deal with Ron Howard

Fresh from the success of The Lego Batman Movie, Australian animation studio Animal Logic has announced a deal with Hollywood filmmaker Ron Howard's production company to make six family movies in the next five years.

They are teaming up to make both animated and live-action/animated movies - so-called hybrid productions - with hefty budgets of between $US75 million and $US85 million each. The deal covers production worth more than $500 million.

It's a significant expansion for the animation studio as it builds on the success of The Lego Movie, a surprise hit that took more than $US460 million at the worldwide box office in 2014, and The Lego Batman Movie, a hit this year that has taken almost $US300 million.

Animal Logic chief executive Zareh Nalbandian said Howard, the Oscar-winning director of Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code, would direct one of the animated movies.

"Both Imagine and Animal Logic brought their family slate to the table so we're spoilt for choice," he said. "The first place we'll look is always Australia for the filming but it's got to make sense for the project."

Describing Animal Logic's work as groundbreaking, Howard said they were looking to make movies with "engaging, inventive and heart-warming stories that appeal to families ... the possibilities for new material are limitless in this highly coveted space".

Marvel comic book exhibition

Fans of comic books and their many movie adaptations will be interested in a new exhibition opening at Brisbane's Gallery of Modern Art next month.

Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe, which runs from May 27 to September 3, features more than 500 objects including costumes for Captain America, Thor and The Ancient One.

Gallery director Chris Saines said the exhibition would feature more than 60 costumes, props, concept and keyframe art, set designs and clips from Marvel movies.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said the company was thrilled to be working with the gallery on the exhibition. "Following the success of filming Thor: Ragnarok on the Gold Coast, we couldn't think of a better setting to stage the largest Marvel exhibition ever," he said.
