The Chaffey’s Black Belt Academy fighter won his Muay Thai fight at the recent Next Generation Fight Night on the Central Coast.
Along the way he also caught the attention of a couple of promoters.
“I was picked up by a promoter to fight in Doyalson,” McCulloch, 16, said.
“That’s a pretty big opportunity.”
He has also been contacted by one of the mc’s from the Central Coast night about fighting in Sydney.
Dropping down 2kg to fight bantamweight rather than junior featherweight, which he has been fighting, McCulloch was awarded the win on points decision.
“I thought it was pretty tight but they said I won on unanimous points decision,” he said.
He was conceding height to his opponent but was able to out manoeuvre him.
“The guy was about three inches taller than me but I think my speed really helped me,” he said.
It’s something he has been working hard on.
“We’ve been working a lot on footwork and explosiveness,” McCulloch said.
The Tamworth High School student has been doing Muay Thai since around the age of 12 and has been with Chaffey’s for two years.
The Central Coast fight was just his fourth and first in bantamweight.
He’s now preparing for the Doyalson fight on June 17.
“A huge goal for me is to win a title,” he said.
Longer term he said it is a dream to fight over in Thailand.
