A 30-year-old man, who was behind the wheel of a Ford Falcon heading west, died at the scene on the Oxley Highway, near the Tamworth airport turnoff, about 3.15pm.
“Preliminary examinations suggest the Ford Falcon has travelled onto the incorrect side of the roadway,” Oxley highway patrol Sergeant Michael Buko told The Leader.
“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and the moments before impact.
“As part of those investigations, police will interview the occupants in both vehicles, as well as the cars travelling behind both vehicles and any other witnesses.”
A 19-year-old woman travelling in the Ford suffered minor injuries, while the 44-year-old woman driving the on-coming Kluger, and her 54-year-old passenger, were also taken to hospital for varying injuries.
