On Tuesday, the traffic lane travelling along Carthage Street from St Nicholas Primary School will be closed near the White Street intersection from 7am to 4pm. On Wednesday, the work site will be across in the same traffic lane but on the other side of the White Street intersection, closing it to traffic from 7am to 4pm.
The works are part of the ongoing major project in White Street to replace the water main and reconstruct the road pavement.
The works this week will also involve some unavoidable disruptions to water supply.
Affected property owners in Carthage and Rawson streets have been advised through a notice left in their mailbox of the times when they will be impacted.
They will be notified by council staff on site if there are any changes.
White Street Project Manager Daniel Stewart said both White Street residents and motorists who are regular users of the busy East Tamworth thoroughfare have been “very understanding and patient” during the construction works.
“We appreciate how major projects like this can impact on nearby residents and the wider community and we are scheduling work with the aim of minimising any inconvenience,” he said.
“This week parents and carers of students at St Nicholas Primary School in particular are being asked to change their usual travel route along Carthage Street and Council really appreciates their cooperation.”
On Saturday, work was completed on installing the new water main across the intersection of White and Carthage Streets.
Once the water main installation works are completed, council’s construction crews are scheduled to undertake water main connections in Rawson Street on either side of the White Street intersection on Friday, March 31 and in Upper Street on Tuesday, April 4.
