New England mountain bikers excelled at last weekend’s National Mountain Bike Championships in Canungra, Queensland, returning between them with four National titles, four silver medals and three bronze medals.

The championships started on Friday with the Short Course, and in winning style for the contingent, with Katherine Hosking (U19 women) and David Harris (Masters 5 Men) winning the National title for their age groups.
John McQueen was third to Harris while David Cook took bronze in the U17 men.
Later in the day was the Team Relay event where two of the three New England teams finished on the podium. Team 1 consisting of David Harris, Holly Harris, Michael Harris, Fergus McQueen finished on top with Team 2 comprising Jack Feltham, Katherine Hosking, Peter Hosking, Angus Apps placing third.
Saturday saw the beginning of the XCO racing and New England add to their medal haul with David Harris winning the Masters Men 5 and taking home the green and gold jersey, and newly-crowned Oceania champion Trevor Weston claiming silver in the Masters Men 8, while Isabella Hosking was second in the U17 women after a strong ride. Emily Wooster battled for third place but narrowly missed out, coming home fourth.
Sunday was the U19, U23 and Elite men and women’s turn. Rain overnight and the morning made the very steep and technical track even more challenging.
Hosking picked up her second national title by winning the U19 womens race, while, racing in the Elite’s, Holly Harris was second to Rebecca Henderson.
