I have no argument with a proposed upgrade at “The Lookout” in fact, I believe Council has done a good job up there over the past few years.

However, the matter of our disgracefully unkempt CBD remains a very poor reflection on our Council, especially elected members, whose job it is to ensure the Council , including administrative staff, carry out their duties in the interest of their employers, the ratepayers of Tamworth.
Some almost two and a half years ago, a written inspection report was submitted to Council through the TCCWG, covering no fewer than 47 Peel street properties and, their abutting footpaths. No premises were actually identified, however, the report indicated as follows:
Premises Good/Very Good 14- Fair/poor 33
Paving Good/Very Good 1 Fair/poor 46
Council response to this report was “they agreed that something should be done, however, “BUDGET RESTRAINTS” prevented action.
It is noted from Council plans, it is intending to spend an additional at least $50000.00 at the lookout but, cannot afford to keep our City Centre in the manner of which it is so deserving, even though they have apparently spent $200000 at the lookout over the past 6 years.
I was speaking yesterday in our CBD with a visiting Queensland businessman and, I asked him what he thought of our city centre presentation? His response was that it’s appearance was very disappointing.
I realise that Councillors and the management cannot expect to get recognition or photo ops in return for arranging the cleaning up our City CBD. However, respect for our city and it residents, both past and present, is far more important than a desire for any undeserved kudos.
I called at Council office today on another matter and, made special note of cleanliness of street paving in their front “court yard”, very good- then I walked further along Peel Street to witness the at times, disgraceful presentation of the walkway.
This Council is widely regarded by residents and, even some staff, as a great disappointment. This description could be so easily reversed if more respect was to be shown by the “powers that be” to the feelings/views of our residents. What about an online survey, as is taking place on “the lookout”?
