Newsome will make his first Super Rugby start for the Western Force against the Crusaders in Christchurch.
Despite having just three minutes of game-time under his belt since joining the club, Force coach Dave Wessels selected Newsome on the right wing.
He features among a series of changes for the Western Australian side.
Ben Daley comes back into the starting loosehead role, with Pek Cowan moving to the bench. Wallaby hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau earns his first start and Isireli Naisarani is set to make his run-on debut at blindside flanker.
Tighthead Jermaine Ainsley also returns to the starting fifteen.
Experienced utility back Marcel Brache makes his first appearance of the season at inside centre.
Luke Morahan shifts to fullback, while club legend Matt Hodgson will make his return from a hamstring injury.
Wessels is hoping the changes have a desired effect.
“Playing New Zealand teams in New Zealand is the ultimate test of our progress over the last few months,” he said.
“There’s great energy in the group and we’re looking forward to Friday night.”
Sam Carter will lead a Brumbies side which has made five changes for Saturday night’s clash against the Highlanders.
Tamworth front-rower Paddy Ryan has to bide his time, again named on the bench, for what is a must-win clash for the NSW Waratahs against Melbourne Rebels at AAMI Park on Friday night.
