It is widely agreed that education is the best weapon to take on drugs and that is what the seminar, aptly titled, Everything you have ever wanted to know about drugs but were afraid to ask, aims to accomplish.
The seminar will cover everything from what the current drug trends are in Australian and the Tamworth regional community at the moment, and will also shed some light on statistics and patterns.
The seminar is an initiative of the Tamworth Community Drug Action Team and will be hosted by professional speaker and expert in the field Annie Bleeker.
A spokesperson for the action group said that there is no better person to facilitate the day then Ms Bleeker.
“Annie Bleeker is a dynamic and engaging trainer and facilitator. Her unique skill is her ability to connect with and engage audiences from different countries, cultures and demographics,” the spokesperson said.
The circuit speaker has been in the region before, running similar, forums and courses in Moree, Tenterfield and other north west towns, particularly focusing on crystal methamphetamine or ice.
She has also facilitated workshops all over Australia and internationally, including places as diverse as Indonesia, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Turkey and the Netherlands, giving her a thorough understanding of drug and alcohol abuse across a range of cultures and communities.
The day is guaranteed to not only be an educational eye opener, but also entertaining.
“Ms Bleeker has actively worked in the HIV/AIDS and alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector since 1990,” the spokesperson said.
The workshop will be held at the Ibis Styles in Tamworth on Monday April 10, and will run from 10am through to 4pm. Tickets cost $21.50 and will include morning tea and lunch.
